According to field research, consultation, and literature review, the land use types of conventional ground PV power stations and agricultural PV power stations before construction are identified as unused land, namely bare land, barren mountains and slopes, saline-alkali land, and wasteland (Adeh et al., 2019).
The national average ecological value of PV land is 5.38 × 10 4 CNY/hm 2, which is analogous to the existing research results (7.10 × 10 4 CNY/hm 2) (Liu et al., 2020). Fig. 7. The ecological services value of PV power stations land in various provinces of China.
By establishing centralized or jointly-village level power stations, surplus electricity can be sold while reducing energy costs, thereby unlocking the latent benefits of underutilized lands (Y. Wang et al., 2023), as exemplified by China's PV poverty alleviation efforts (Tang et al., 2018).
Accordingly, this study conducts a quantitative analysis of the land use benefits of PV power stations at the provincial spatial scale in China, aiming to bridge research gap and explore the harmonization and improvement of renewable energy production while realizing land resource value.
The rapid expansion of photovoltaic (PV) power stations in recent years has been primarily driven by international renewable energy policies. Projections indicate that global PV installations have covered an area of 92000 km 2, equivalent to the entire land area of Portugal (Zhang et al., 2023b, Zhang et al., 2023c).
The results demonstrated that developing PV power stations is an efficient solution to realize land appreciation. From the perspective of single-factor value, power generation contributes the most to the value enhancement of PV land, accounting for more than half. The electricity value of PV land is approximately 1.90 × 10 5 ∼5.09 × 10 5 CNY/hm 2.
