When large-scale wind power is integrated into the power grid, it will bring a significant technical challenge: the highly variable nature of wind power poses a threat to the safe and stable control of the power, frequency, and voltage in the power system.
The prediction model predicts the system's output power for a future period and generates a control vector to minimize a certain cost function . For wind power systems, the cost function may be the tracking error or minimum cost. The constraints include the upper and lower limits of wind power climbing, unit startup, and shutdown.
A well-designed taxonomy of the model predictive control for large-scale wind power integration is developed. A multi-level control architecture and multi-objective control strategy are proposed for improving wind power accommodation. Further research topics for future works in large-scale wind power integration in power systems are presented.
However, typically somewhere between 12 and 17 m/s, the power output reaches the limit that the electrical generator is capable of. This limit to the generator output is called the rated power output and the wind speed at which it is reached is called the rated output wind speed.
