We propose several policy recommendations to sustain progress in China's efforts to deploy PV for poverty alleviation. There lacks a comprehensive analysis on the large-scale deployment of solar photovoltaic projects and its impact on poverty alleviation.
Furthermore, rural residential PV is not just environmentally beneficial, it also offers substantial commercial advantages, aligning with China's rural revitalization strategy.
Photovoltaic poverty alleviation project (PPAP) is one of the “Ten Targeted Poverty Alleviation Strategies” in China announced in 2014. Although it has been confirmed to play a prominent role in poverty alleviation for rural households, its impact on household clean energy choice behaviors has yet to be discovered.
Dongwen Liu, CEO of Chongho Bridge, noted that rooftop solar projects could boost the annual cash income of rural populations by 10%-20%. The collaboration with Chongho Bridge is anticipated to yield significant environmental and social benefits for rural households, businesses and their wider communities through rooftop solar power generation.
Given that the amount of PV revenue distributed to rural households can influence income growth, we use the logarithm of the accumulated PPAP funds received by rural households for the year as an additional policy variable for PPAP. The results are presented in Table 5.
